The
confidence that Yavneh’s Middle School students exhibit springs
from a deep sense of comfort: Comfort in their facility, comfort
with their teachers and peers, and most especially, comfort with
themselves. These sixth, seventh and eighth graders have tremendous
energy. They laugh and clown, doubt and fret with the same passions
as all 11 to 14 year olds, but there is about them a sureness of
self, a sense of purpose and a kindness to one another. In the respectful
and supportive environment of our Middle School, self-esteem, leadership
and responsibility are forged through academic challenge and real
opportunities for service and decision making.
- The
integrated curriculum of their lower school work prepares
our students to think beyond the concrete as they grow from
childhood to young adulthood.
|
- The
students continue to hone their critical thinking skills
in writing workshops, through literary analysis, and historic
and scientific research.
|
- Computers,
both in the computer lab and in the classrooms, are used
for a variety of purposes including word processing, spreadsheets,
PowerPoint presentations, graphic design and supervised
Internet-based research.
|
- A
flexible mathematics program allows able students to progress
at an accelerated rate and complete high school level algebra
in the eighth grade. Gifted math students have the option
of studying geometry, as well.

Study Opportunities
Outside the Classroom
The Middle School curriculum includes a sixth grade program
in Washington D.C., while the seventh graders investigate New York’s
Jewish heritage. The Yavneh experience culminates in a two week
Israel experience for our eighth grades. Students hone their Hebrew
skills as they embark on an in-depth exploration of ancient and
modern day Israel.
